What happens if I miss a dose of trazodone?

Short answer: Take it when you remember, unless it is close to your next scheduled dose — in that case, skip the missed dose rather than doubling up.

Editorially reviewed

Missing an occasional dose of trazodone is not usually dangerous. General guidance for missed doses of most medications applies: take it as soon as you remember, but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule. Never take two doses at once to "catch up." If missed doses become frequent, mention it to your prescriber — for depression treatment, consistency matters for effectiveness.
