Is trazodone approved for children or teenagers?

Short answer: No. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established, and all antidepressants, including trazodone, carry a boxed warning about increased suicidal thinking in patients under 25.

Editorially reviewed

Trazodone's prescribing information states plainly that safety and effectiveness in the pediatric population have not been established. Any pediatric or adolescent use would be an off-label decision made carefully by a specialist, with full awareness of the antidepressant-class boxed warning regarding suicidal thoughts and behaviors in younger patients.
