Trazodone is sometimes chosen specifically because it tends to cause fewer sexual side effects than SSRIs — occasionally it is even added to help offset SSRI-related sexual side effects. That said, changes in libido can still occur. Separately, priapism is a distinct, well-documented, and more serious risk covered on our Priapism page — any erection lasting more than 4 hours is an emergency.
Can trazodone cause sexual side effects?
Short answer: Sexual side effects are reported less often with trazodone than with SSRIs, though decreased libido can still occur. Priapism (a prolonged, painful erection) is a separate, rarer, and more serious risk in men.
