Can I take trazodone if I have high blood pressure?

Short answer: It can lower blood pressure somewhat, particularly on standing, so anyone on blood pressure medication should have this discussed and monitored by their prescriber rather than assuming it is automatically fine.

Editorially reviewed

Trazodone's alpha-1 adrenergic blocking activity means it can contribute to lower blood pressure, especially when standing up quickly. This does not automatically rule it out for people with high blood pressure or those on antihypertensive medication, but it is a relevant factor your prescriber should weigh, and blood pressure monitoring during dose changes is reasonable.
