Trazodone and melatonin

Melatonin is a mild sedative supplement, and while it does not share trazodone's serotonergic mechanism, its sedative effect can still add to trazodone's.

Key points
  • Not a serotonin syndrome concern like some other supplements
  • Sedative effects can still add together
  • Discuss combined use with your prescriber rather than self-adjusting

Melatonin is a hormone supplement used for sleep and jet lag. It does not carry the same serotonin syndrome concern as some other supplements on this list, but its mild sedative effect can still add to trazodone's, particularly at higher melatonin doses. Some people use both together under a prescriber's guidance; others find it unnecessary on top of trazodone.
