Discontinuation syndrome

Also called: Antidepressant withdrawal

A cluster of symptoms — such as nausea, insomnia, irritability, or flu-like feelings — that can occur when an antidepressant is stopped abruptly, especially after longer-term or higher-dose use.

Trazodone's own labeling lists withdrawal symptoms including anxiety, agitation, and sleep problems, and advises against stopping it without talking to a prescriber. A gradual taper, planned with a clinician, is generally recommended over abrupt discontinuation. See our tapering guidance.
