One reason trazodone was developed was to reduce the anticholinergic burden associated with earlier tricyclic antidepressants. It still causes some dry mouth and blurred vision in a meaningful minority of users, but generally less than tricyclics like amitriptyline.
Anticholinergic effects
Side effects — such as dry mouth, blurred vision, or constipation — caused by blocking acetylcholine receptors. Trazodone has weaker anticholinergic activity than older tricyclic antidepressants.
